The story of Foxy

Forgot to let you know that Foxy is doing well. We are working with a professional trainer in our home and we have made a lot of progress. She is a smart girl and a welcome addition. Thanks for saving her life. It is hard to think of all the Foxy's at ACS that are not as lucky. Thanks for all you do.

The story of Solomon

Here’s a good story that will brighten your day. A little over a month ago, I received a hand-written letter from a lady named Ms. Willa Carlton. She is a senior citizen, a resident of the Eastside, who wanted to adopt a dog to replace her companion dog who had passed away. Her note informed me that she could not drive as far as the Humane Society or ACS and wanted to know if there was an adoption center closer to her. I called her and found out that she was looking for a small dog, such as a poodle or Shi-tzu mix, male, one year or older, 20 – 30 pounds. She was pretty specific about what she wanted. I sent a note to Peggy Brink, who is the ED for Cressie Animal Refuge and Enrichment (CARE), and my buddies at the ACS Lifesavers to see if they had a dog that met Ms. Carlton’s specifications, and if they would be willing to take it to her. Ms. Carlton does not use email or the internet, so she would not be able to look at a photo of the dog. Peggy did have a male poodle that fit the bill and arranged to take it over for Ms. Carlton to see it. Ms. Carlton liked the dog and adopted him. I called Ms. Carlton to close the loop with her. She loves the dog, named him Solomon (which, I think she ways was the previous dog’s name), and is very happy. Thanks so much to Peggy for taking the time to make a special delivery!

The story of Cleo and Jax

image of cleo and jax

Our dogs are doing great. We have a back yard that has grass in only half of it because they run and play mostly in the other half. They get along great. I think Cleo (younger part ger. Shep/rott) keeps Jax (black lab) active because she still wants to play a lot. She takes his ball and makes him chase her or she chases him when finally gets the ball back. They tussle and play. She will walk the perimeter and bark at any wildlife that comes near the fence or is in the trees (squirrels, possums). He just stands right behind like hes her back up. When Jax doesnt want to play anymore, he just nips at her and she backs off and lets him rest. For a long time neither used the dog house, they would just run in it with a toy and the other would try to get it in and get the toy. It was more a play house. Now, we will find one of them sleeping in it during the day sometimes. They are great dogs.

The story of Oliver

This is Oliver. I adopted him at the very first CARE Doggie Fashion Show event and he has been the best pet I have ever had. It is almost as if he knows I saved his life and he is so sweet and cuddly. I work from home and every day he sits on my desk and works with me while I take conference calls and work on my computer (he sits on top of all my papers and loves to play with pens, of course!). He keeps me company all day and follows me around the house each time I move from room to room. I am so grateful to CARE for providing me with this wonderful bundle of joy.

The story of Duke

Duke is the best dog ever. Duke is my best friend, maybe it's a guy thing. Cali, our other dog, follows Liz around and duke chills with me in our theatre room when I watch old soccer films, he is such a sweet heart. One thing we've noticed on Duke is that he likes to wear Bandanas. He will remove Cali's unless we put one on him, then he won't be jealous. So I bought him a Raiders one.

The story of Steel

I just want to say thank you so much for helping my and my son find a wonderful dog. It's only been a couple of days but we've become so attached to him already. My son's face just lit up like I had never seen before. He can't stop thanking me for his dog but it's you we need to thank!! We named him Steel. He's doing good. Overall, I really appreciate you and your hard work.

The story of Yoshi

We recently adopted a dog from CARE and I just wanted to check in and let you know that things are going GREAT! Thank you so much for taking the time to help us find a good match. Adrian and my other son Ian love him! We named him Yoshi and he is wonderful! He is so sweet and very tolerant of my 4 yr old. We were so happy to find that he was already potty trained and has not had any accidents!!!!! Again, thank you so much for bringing him to us.

Cressie's Corner

The story of Cressie

image of cressie

Cressie was the runt of the litter, a couple months old, living on the streets with four skinny puppy brothers. Unable to fight for food, the litter spent their time sniffing out scraps left by bigger dogs. Their luck soon changed. Cressie and her brothers were rescued and brought to a shelter. There, Peggy and Lloyd Brink met Cressie, and welcomed her into their family. That tiny runt inspired Peggy to start CARE. Won't you step up and become a CARE giver today?
